Trip to Traverse City

Ran up to Traverse to get fitted for a tux. On the way back, I stopped at Oryana for some sundries, coffee, and chocolate. The TART Trail sits just behind the Coop, so I popped down to catch the sun set and some late-summer blossoms. The yellow are small-headed wild sunflowers (Helianthus microcephalus), and the pink are another Michigan native, Robin’s Plantain (Erigeron pulchellus). Squee!

Highspeed photos of a Lemon and Lime hitting a bowl of water

Today, I spent some time setting up the rig in my parents garage to see if I could get some shots of water splashing. I would have liked to have used a fish tank, but all I could find in the house was a Pyrex bowl. This has been an assignment I’ve been wanting to try for a few weeks after I got the idea from Photo Extremist’s video.

I shot these with my Nikon D7000, 50mm 1.8 at f/16, 1/200 exposure, ISO-100, with my Nikon SB-600 set manual, at 1/2. Here’s my setup, in the garage, in the middle of the day. I played with snooting my flash with some cardboard I found in the trash, and kept the entire flash unit (including the wireless transceiver) covered with two plastic bags.
